SYNTHMAX

Every note in this video is played by synthmax - its orchestra patches, no samples.

synthmax

The modular synthesizer, reimagined for your DAW

synthmax puts an entire modular synthesizer studio inside a single plugin. Drag modules onto the workbench, connect them with patch cables, and play - oscillators, filters, envelopes, sequencers and effects wire together any way you can imagine, just like a hardware modular rack, with no limits on cables and nothing to tune up.

Patch a single voice and synthmax does the rest: every note you play gets its own copy of your patch, for up to 16-voice polyphony, while reverbs, amps and rotary speakers process the whole mix the way real outboard gear does.

And everything is synthesized. There are no sample libraries anywhere in synthmax - the concert grand, the electric pianos, the tonewheel organ, the guitars, saxophones and bells are all built from its own modules: physical models, FM, plucked-string models and classic analog-style voices that respond to every nuance of your playing.

What it can do

  • 49 modules from oscillators and filters to a physically modelled piano, a tonewheel organ, a vocoder and a full guitar rig.
  • True modular patching - any output into any input, cables that sum, and green stereo cables that carry left and right together.
  • Automatic polyphony - patch once, play chords. Poly, note-follow and mono-legato voice modes.
  • Splits and layers - put different instruments on different parts of the keyboard, layer them, or switch sounds with how hard you play.
  • DAW sync - the beat clock follows your host's tempo and transport, so sequencers and rhythmic patches play in time with the song.
  • Expressive control - velocity, pitch bend, sustain pedal, mod wheel, expression, breath, aftertouch and MIDI-learn, all patchable to anything.
  • A real room simulator - place your sounds and microphones in a room, pick the walls, and hear the space computed from its geometry.
  • Studio-grade effects - convolution reverb, mastering compressor, 24-band EQ, Leslie cabinet, chorus, flanger, phaser and more.
  • A mixer that grows with your patch, with stereo effects send/return buses.
  • Guitar to synth - play any patch from a guitar or bass.
  • Built-in test equipment - oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer and voltmeter for seeing exactly what your patch is doing.
  • A complete orchestra - every instrument from piccolo to timpani as a solo player and as a section. The strings are physically modelled bowed strings in modelled violin, viola, cello and bass bodies; the reeds and brass are physical models too - breath, reed and bore, lips and bell - and every player's intonation and timing is a little different, as real players' are.
  • Guitars for every style - jazz, funk, country, blues, classic rock, 60s fuzz, surf, 80s chorus, ambient, rock lead and metal; nylon, steel, 12-string, flamenco, dreadnought, resonator, mandolin, ukulele and banjo; fingered, picked, fretless and slap basses.
  • Percussion from around the world - a rock drum kit and a Latin percussion kit on the General MIDI drum map, so your DAW's drum tracks just play; an African kit of djembe, dunun, talking drum, bell and shekere; and a steel drum, balafon and kalimba to play melodically.
  • Factory patches including grand piano, Rhodes, Wurlitzer, Hammond and saxophones.
